BATON ROUGE - - - Grambling State junior southpaw hurler Adrian Turner threw a complete nine inning game to defeat Jackson State, 9-7, in game two of the 2009 Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament Baseball Tournament.
After two scoreless innings the Grambling Tigers broke onto the scoreboard with two runs when leadoff hitter Anthony Clifiton who drew a walk and Arthur Mazierski who reached base after being hit by a pitched scored on a single by Mychal Roby followed by an infield ground ball by Steve Kletke.
Grambling would add six more runs in the fourth inning to take an, 8-0, lead. Jackson State made their way to the scoreboard in the sixth with three runs and in the seventh with four, before GSU added a final run the eighth.
Grambling was led at the plate by Mike Roby who went two-for-four with a run scored and two RBI’s. Kletke finished with a base hit, run scored and 3RBI’s.
Cortez Cole went two-for-five with two runs scored for JSU. Froneberger received the loss after giving up six runs in three innings of work.
Grambling will advance in the winners bracket to face the winner of the Southern versus Alabama A&M game tomorrow at 6:00 PM at Lee-Hines Field. The Tigers can be heard live on the radio at 99.3 FM The Peach and on the
