GRAMBLING, LA – The Lady Tigers celebrated “Senior Day” capping off a 3-0 series sweep over Prairie View A&M University. The seniors were recognized during a small ceremony in between games of Saturday's double-header. The team bid goodbyes to starters Takeia Edwards (1B), Chae'wayla Jackson (CF), and Denean Woods (2B).
Takiea Edwards, affectionately referred to as “TK” is a two-year letterwinner for the Lady Tigers. The Gulf Port, MS native is the daughter of Richard and Saddie Edwards. She transferred to GSU after spending two years at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Edwards is majoring in psychology and upon graduation she plans to pursue a career as a clinical psychologist.
Chae'wayla Jackson, known more commonly as “Cha-Cha”, is also a two-year letterwinner for GSU. The Desoto, TX native is the daughter of Bernitta Lewis. Jackson transferred to Grambling State University after spending two seasons at Paris Junior College in Paris, TX. She is majoring in marketing and plans to pursue a career as a marketing executive upon graduation.
Denean Woods is the daughter of Margaret Woods. The Hawthorne, CA native spent two seasons as a Lady Tiger after transferring from Southern University-Baton Rouge. Woods is a marketing major and upon graduation plans to pursue a career as a sports agent.
“These ladies will be sorely missed. They each played an integral role in this season's success”, said Head Coach Wilbert Early. The Lady Tigers currently sit in second place in the SWAC's Western Division. GSU will host non-conference opponent Texas College in their final game of the regular season on Thursday, April 16th. The first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 PM.
