GRAMBLING, LA - A 14-2 run in the first six minutes of the second half broke open a tight contest as Grambling State defeated Alcorn State 83-65 on Monday night in the Assembly Center.
Alcorn State (2-14, 0-4 SWAC) came out on fire to open the contest and sprinted out to a 19-7 lead early in the first half but Grambling (4-11, 2-2 SWAC) woke up and tied it at 21-all thanks to a 14-2 run led by guard Jordan Lemons. Neither team led by more than four points after the early run as Grambling took a 36-34 lead into the half.
Grambling turned up the intensity on both ends of the court as the second half began with a 14-2 run led by Andrew Prestley and Ariece Perkins to claim a 50-36 margin at the 14-minute mark. The Tigers never looked back once they secured control of the game as ASU never got its deficit down to single figures.
Four players scored in double figures for Grambling led by Andrew Prestley's 18 points. Perkins had a strong game with 10 assists while Jamal Breaux tallied seven rebounds.
Grambling begins a two-game road swing with a trip to the state of Texas on Saturday, Jan. 17 as they battle undefeated Prairie View A&M at 7:30 p.m. in Prairie View, Texas.
