Tigers Post Huge Comeback in Win over Braves

Donald Qualls scored a game high 31 points in win over Alcorn State

Alcorn State, MS --- Kevin Lloyd paced the Grambling State with 31 points as the Tigers came from 17 points down in the second half to defeat the Alcorn State Braves 82-74 in overtime in the Braves Dave. Whitney Complex.
 
Down, 68-66, Grambling’s Lance Fuertado nailed two free throws with 49-seconds in the second half to send the game into overtime. The Tigers controlled the game from the onset in the extra period as Qualls opened with the first points.
 
Fuertado finished with 19 points and seven rebounds; while George Akpele had 11 points, nine rebound and four blocked shots.
 
The Braves were led by Johnathan Boyd’s 16 points and four steals, with Brandon Rogers adding 12 points. Jamarcus Holt posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Men's Basketball
Lance Fuertado was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week. Fuertado averaged 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in a pair of games vs. Alabama State and Alabama A&M last week. In his top game of the week, Fuertado recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds vs. Alabama State. This is Fuertado’s second Newcomer of the Week award.
