Jackson, Ms.---The Grambling State Lady Tigers basketball team staked an impressive, 65-52, win over the Lady Tigers of Jackson State today in the JSU Williams Athletics & Assembly Center.
Entering the game looking to break a five game losing streak Grambling went to work early opening up a 13-4 lead at the 13:28 mark. The first half would prove to be a series of runs with Jackson closing the lead to 28-27 at the half. In the first half GSU shot 40-percent from the field but was five of eleven from three-point range and held a 20-18 rebounding edge.
Jackson opened the second half taking a brief lead 29-28. However a minute later Grambling once again moved ahead and this time for good as they gradually pulled away from the host Lady Tigers. Grambling shooting improved in the second period at 48-percent and continued to dominate the glass at 18-14.
GSU was led by Kristen Harper, Kiara Marshall and Wymeka Randle. Harper and Marshall had 15 and 13 points respectively, while Randle added 10 points six rebounds and three blocked shots. Jasher Blocker had eight points and nine rebounds.
Jackson State’s Mar’chetta Parker led all scorers with 16 points. Rachel Jones had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.
