HOUSTON---The Grambling State Lady Tigers picked up a big conference win this afternoon in a, 59-52, come from behind victory on the road against the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern.
In the first half Texas Southern scored first but it was Grambling that opened an early lead 3-2. The half proved to be evenly matched as it went back and forth with TSU holding a slight 25-24 lead at the half. In the first half both teams shot an identical 40-pecent from the field, while TSU held an 18-12 advantage in rebounds. Grambling forced nine Texas Southern turnovers.
In the second half GSU quickly retook the lead, 26-25, on two Alexis Watson free throws. They would maintain the lead all but one possession when TSU briefly led 31-30.
With the score tied at 52 and 1:08 remaining Secrett Anderson found a wide open Wyneishia Randle under the basket for an easy jump shot to put GSU up for good as they slipped away with the win.
In the second half Grambling dominated the boards out rebounding their hosts 21-9. They also took advantage at the charity strip where they shot 11-of-15; while TSU was a lowly 0-for-5 from the free throw line.
GSU (9-12, 6-6) received a total team effort with no one scoring in double figures. Randle and Rachele Dobbins had nine points apiece. Anderson and Jasher Blocker had eight each. Randle and Anderson had eight and seven rebounds respectively.
Texas Southern’s Nadosha Strickland had a game high 23 points. Trikeyia East had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Gambling will remain on the road as they stay in the Lone Star state to face the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M Monday night at 5:30 pm.
