Grambling, LA---The Lady Tigers of Grambling State extended their win streak to five games with a 48-42 win over the Lady Tigers of Jackson State tonight in the GSU Fred C. Hobdy Arena.
It was WBCA Pink Zone Night for breast cancer awareness for Grambling as the Lady Tiger’s dressed out in pink shooting shirts and shoe strings.
In the first half Grambling jumped out to an early 17-4 lead before Jackson State settled into the game. Grambling would score only three-points over the next 8:11 and allowed JSU to pull ahead 21-20 en route to a 26-20 halftime lead. The first half was evenly matched as both teams shot 8-of-24 from the floor for 33.3-percent and recorded 16 rebounds. JSU held the edge at the free throw line going nine-for-nine from the charity stripe.
In the second half Grambling hung around for half of the period before making a surge and regaining the lead 33-31 at the 10:01 mark. Fueled by bench play that outscored their opponents 15-7 GSU pulled away and cruised to victory.
Grambling (11-12, 8-6) who again had no one score in double figure was led by Secrett Anderson’s eight points and four assists, steals and blocked shots. Whitney Brown had a team high nine points with four rebounds.
Jackson State (3-21, 2-12) was led by Phenecia Taylor’s double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Mar’chetta Parker had 11 points and five rebounds.
Grambling will return to action Saturday February 27th when they return home to face the Lady Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
