G-Men Season Comes to an End in Heartbreaking Loss

Tigers Drop Heartbreaker to TSU in SWAC Tourny Semi-Finals
SHREVEPORT---The Grambling State Tigers basketball team was eliminated tonight from the 2010 Farmers Insurance SWAC Basketball Tournament in a heartbreaking, 60-57, loss to the Tigers of Texas Southern.
 
In the first half TSU jumped out in front early and led the entire half by as much as 13 points at 34-21 before settling for a 34-24 halftime lead. GSU struggled offensively shooting only 26-percent from the field while Texas Southern hit 47-percent of their shots. The two teams were locked even in rebounding with 20 apiece.
 
In the second half Texas Southern maintained their lead but Grambling put together several spurts including a 9-2 run midway through the period to bring them within two at 43-41 with12:44 remaining. Texas Southern extended their lead back to 10 before the G-Men would make one final assault that fell short as a Kevin Lloyd's three-point attempt to tie the game at the buzzer was blocked by TSU's Travele Jones. GSU's defensive intensity created 19 Texas Southern turnovers, while the G-Men out rebounded their opponents 37-32.
 
Grambling was led sophomore guard Donald Qualls with 14 points, three rebounds and three steals. Senior center George Akpele had 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Rupert Rose had nine points and seven rebounds.
 
Junior Treasure had a game high 21 points with three assists and three steals to lead TSU. Deandre Hall had 20 points six rebounds and four assists.
