HUNTSVILLE----The Grambling State Lady Tigers came up short tonight in their regular season finale with a, 53-50, loss to the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University.
The first half saw the home team score first and jump out to a quick 13-7 lead six-minutes into the game. However, that would be the largest lead of the half as the two teams locked into a classic battle that lead to one tie and six lead changes with the Lady Bulldogs edging out a 26-25 lead at the half. In the first half the Lady Tigers shot 36-percent from the floor and held a slight edge on the glass out rebounding AAMU 16-13. GSU’s staunch defense created 15 turnovers and six steals. The Lady Bulldogs shot 57-percent.
In the second half the Lady Tigers jumped out in front 27-26 in the opening minute. The period would continue to mimic the first in back and forth play with Grambling holding a 34-31 lead at the 12:40 mark. AAMU would responded in the late minutes of the period taking a 45-44 lead at the 5:50 mark. Grambling shooting woes continued as they shot 35-percent for the game to AAMU’s 44-percent. The Lady Tigers forced 22 AMMU turnovers.
Grambling’s Wymeka Randle and Secrett Anderson turned in 12 points apiece, while Alexis Watson added seven points.
Katrich Williams led the Lady Bulldogs with a game high 23 points.
Grambling will return to action Thursday when they face the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern at 5:30 pm in first round action of the 2010 Farmers Insurance SWAC Basketball Tournament at Centry-Tel Arena in Bossier City, LA.
