Grambling, LA---The Grambling State Tigers men’s golf team wrapped up a fourth place finish in the 2010 Southwestern Athletic Conference Golf championship, while junior Jonathan Coleman held on for the SWAC men’s individual title.
“We were five stokes out the led after day one, however after day two we were too far back to make up the difference,” said GSU Head Golf Coach Tegitra Thomas. “We wanted to make sure we finished in the top half of the conference, so finishing fourth out of 10 schools was a good showing for us.”
Coleman, named first team All-Conference, led the individual competition wire-to-wire, firing a final round 78 to finish at 219 (+3) for medalist honors. He won by six strokes over Sam Strachan from Alabama State and Jackson State's Maurice Jefferies.
“John has been targeting the SWAC championship has an “I want to win” tournament since his freshman year. Being a junior this is his third time playing in the event,” Thomas said. “He has been putting the work in and his work ethics is what has taken him to the level he is now. He works extremely hard.”
