Irondale, AL---#3 Grambling State rattled off four runs in the first inning to get an early jump in a 5-4 upset win over #2 Alcorn State in first round action of the 2010 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Championships.
Tied at four entering the seventh inning Grambling's Jassitte Richardson led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a Rosanna Alvarado sacrifice bunt. Richardson would go on to score the game winning run when Mikieshia Henson reached base on an error at first.
Grambling's Kiara Dedeaux went 3-for-3 in the game while Latrice Wood was 2-for-4 with two RBI's to help the Lady Tigers secure the win and advance in the winner's bracket. On the mound Brandi Payne picked up the win in seven innings of work.
The Lady Braves were led by Christina Garcia with two hits and an RBI.
The Lady Tigers will face Jackson State tomorrow at 3:30 pm at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex.
