Lady Tigers Drop Weekend Series to Southern

Grambling, LA --- The Grambling State Lady Tigers softball team dropped a three-game divisional series, 3-0, to the Lady Jaguars of Southern University Friday and Saturday.
 
GAME I (GSU 2, SU 9)
In game one Southern posted three runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings while the Tigers scored a run in both the second and sixth innings. 
 
The Tigers were led by Mikiesha Henson who went two-for-three at the plate with two runs scored and Taylor Texado who also recorded two hits with two RBI’s. On the mound Brandi Payne suffered the loss after giving up six runs in five and two-thirds inning of works.
 
For the Lady Jaguars Shawntall Steamer, Chastoni Jones and Jasmine Williams recorded three hits each. Steamer and Williams scored two runs apiece while Jones added three.   Lanaya Jenkins picked up the win allowing two runs (one earned) in seven innings.
 
GAME II (GSU 9, SU 1)
The Lady Tigers scored their lone run in the fifth inning as Kiara Dedeaux scored from third on an infield ground ball by Jassitte Richardson. The Lady Jaguars picked up three runs in the second, two in the fifth and four more in the sixth inning to clinch Friday’s doubleheader.
 
Grambling’s Cabrayana Turner went two-for-two at the plate. Patrice Bailey suffered the loss giving up nine runs in six innings.
 
Steamer, Jennifer Honore and Jasmine Tillman each recorded two hits while Joei Glynn went a complete game without allowing an earned run.
 
GAME III (GSU 2, SU 13)
In the final game of the weekend Grambling down, 6-0, after the top of the first jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning as Richardson scored on an error by Tillman. Each team recorded a run in the their respective halves of the six inning while the Lady Jaguars added six more in the seventh to round out the scoring.
 
Richardson went two-for-three at the plate with a run scored to lead Grambling. Bailey suffered her second loss of the series in a complete game effort.
 
Steamer and Kasha Tauriac both went three-for-five at the plate with two runs scored for the Lady Jaguars. Jenkins recorded her second win going four innings on the mound while Caroline Myers picked up a save in three innings of relief work.
 
Grambling will return to action Monday when they host the Lady Tigers of Jackson State at 1:00 PM at Lady Tigers’ field on the GSU campus.
