New Orleans, LA--- Grambling State rallied on the final day to move from third to champions in the 2010 Men’s SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships despite miserable weather conditions of wind and rain, which prevailed for most of the final day.

Paced by the strength of a final day push in the running events, Grambling made their way from third place outdistancing Arkansas-Pine Bluff and the Golden Lions’ dominating performance in the field events. Grambling finished with 135.5 points, compared to 120 for UAPB.  Jackson State and Alabama State tied for third place with 111 team points. The top four were followed by Prairie View (97.5), Mississippi Valley State (61), Texas Southern (57), Southern (47.5), Alabama A&M (41.5), and Alcorn State (31). Grambling’s Bertram Lovell was named Coach of the Year.

Individually, Grambling’s Darwin Price earned outstanding performer in the track events accounting for 25 points for the champion Tigers. Price won the 3,000m steeplechase, finished second in the 1,500 meters, third in the 800 meters, and eighth in the 5,000 meters.
