BIRMINGHAM --- It was no surprise when Grambling State’s defensive end Christian Anthony brought home the Southwestern Athletic Conference top preseason defensive award as he was named the 2010 preseason defensive player of the year.

In 2009 Anthony led the conference in solo tackles (55), forced fumbles (5) and fumbles recovered en route to being named conference defensive player of the year as well as to several All-America team.

Joining Anthony on the preseason All-SWAC first team are running back Frank Warren, place kicker Ari Johnson, return specialist Kiare Thompson and linebacker Cliff Exama.  Running back Cornelius Walker and tight end Larry Donnell received second team honors.

The Tigers were predicted to finish second in the SWAC western division race which would be a repeat of last year’s finish to defending conference champions Prairie View A&M.

The preseason All-Conference teams and the predicted order of finish as released by the conference media relations office is voted on by league coaches, sports information directors and selected media.
