Grambling, LA ---New look, same winning attitude will be the motto carried by the Grambling State Lady Tigers volleyball team as preseason training kicks into high gear.

Lady Tigers first year Interim Head Coach, Demetria Keys-Johnson, will look to replace five seniors from last year’s squad that won the school’s sixth consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference western division championship.

“My first impression is that we have a young but great team.  With some work after preseason is over we will be a good team.  We really have a lot of good talent that came in the freshman class and then our sophomores are really going to bring it this year.  We will be able to run a lot of quick plays,” said Johnson.  “So my first impression has been a good one.”

Returning only four upperclassmen the Johnson will rely heavily on a top-notched freshman class that must quickly become acclimated to the Lady Tigers system to continue to carrying the winning torch.

With that in mind the Lady Tigers are concentrating on bringing everyone up to speed and mental as well as physical conditioning through early morning track and weight room workouts before hitting the floor for practice in the evening.

“I want them to know that this is a new look but trust me we still have that same old Grambling tradition.  I need them to know we still have that same winning attitude, that same hard work.  That same old GSU tradition…Go! Fight! Win!” Keys added.  “That’s who we are!”
