SHREVEPORT ---The Tigers of Grambling State sputtered offensively tonight in Grambling's, 20-6, loss to the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech in the inaugural Port City Classic.
The Bulldogs jumped on the board early courtesy of a one-yard scamper by Myke Compton (Matt Nelson's PAT Good) for a 7-0 lead at the12:49 mark of the first quarter. The Tigers responded just minutes later when
Zoltan Riazzo connected on the first of two field goals a, 39-yarder with 8:48 remaining in the quarter.
Compton would find pay dirt once again, this time on a two-yard plunge (Nelson, PAT Good) in the opening minutes of the second quarter, while Nelson added a 39-yard field goal with 9:17 remaining to give the Bulldogs a 17-3 lead at the half.
The third quarter would see Riazzo add a 34-yard field goal at 7:31 on the clock for the only score of the period.
Nelson wrapped up the scoring with a 45-yard field goal with 2:08 remaining in the game.
Following an open week Grambling will return to action on September 18th when they host Jackson State.
