Grambling, LA--With nearly 35,000 supporters in attendance, Grambling State University officials are calling the inaugural Port City Classic a win-win for both schools as well as the city of Shreveport.

“This event was a major success for everyone involved. We estimate that 34,762 people attended the classic”, said GSU Athletic Director, J. Lin Dawson. “We are looking forward to making this event bigger and better for the next two years. We would like the competition in Shreveport to rival what the Bayou Classic brings to New Orleans.”

Early game estimates did not include non-ticketed passes such as event staff, half-time performers, media, and invited guests.

Although numbers are important, both football teams showed up to win a game. Dawson said, “We were good competitors on the field and the fans were treated to a good game of football and awesome half-time show”.

GSU Head football coach Rod Broadway said, “We asked our young men to play hard and they did. We focused on the fundamentals and identified some things we need to improve for our next game. I’m proud of our young men”.
