GRAMBLING, La (June 7, 2013) – After an impressive at the NCAA East Regionals,
Akeem Williams ran his best time of the season in the 200 meters, but failed to qualify for the finals on Thursday night at the 2013 NCAA Track and Field
Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Williams ran a season best 20.41 in his heat, but it was only good for 10
th place. He missed qualifying for the finals by just eight one hundredths of a second. “Training for the 400 meters, which I have been running all season is different from the 200”, Williams said. “You have to start out fast out of the blocks and explode. Even if you have a slow start in the 400, you can catch up. If you have a slow start in the 200 you can't recover.”
Williams had an outstanding year as he was not only a part of a solid relay team, but he was also able to win at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship and at the NCAA East Regionals in North Carolina. “This is my senior year so I wanted to go out with a bang”, said Williams. “I felt good going into the race and did my best to represent myself and Grambling State University. This was my best time of the year.”
