GSU’s Chepkwony claims first at Lois Davis Invitational

MAGNOLIA, Ark. | Grambling State University's men's cross country runner Hassan Chepkwony captured first place, with a time of 25 minutes and 57 seconds, on Friday at the Lois Davis Invitational, hosted by Southern Arkansas University.
 
Noah Rugut placed fifth (26:50) and Aaron Koech 10th (27:23). Hillary Kiprop completed the race in 26th place (29:04), while Jeremiah Kimeli finished 29th (29:12).
 
Grambling State registered 64 points to finish third. Harding won the meet with 36 points, while Southern Arkansas placed second (51). Texas A&M-Commerce (83), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (126) and Arkansas-Monticello (175) rounded out the field.
 
On the women's side, the Lady Tigers placed fourth with 100 points. Harding won the meet with 30 points as Texas A&M-Commerce (57) and Southern Arkansas (74) finished second and third, respectively. Henderson State (137), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (164) and Arkansas-Monticello (174) rounded out the field.
 
 Halima Chepkwony finished fifth to lead Grambling State, with a time of 20:01. Naomi Kirprop also finished in the top ten in eighth, with a time of 20:15. Priscilla Kibet (15th) completed the race in 21:08, while Abigael Jebet (39th) came across the line in 25:17. Azah Cummins placed 47th, while Kyra Canty took 51st.
 
The Grambling State cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 with a trip to Clinton, Miss., to compete in the Mississippi College Invitational, hosted by Mississippi College.
