GSU's LaQuisha Woods Named SWAC Hitter of the Year

HATTIESBURG, MS – GSU’s LaQuisha Woods has been named 2009 SWAC Hitter of the Year as released by the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The sophomore slugger has posted a .411 batting average, including 2 home runs, 12 doubles and 30 RBIs. She led the Lady Tigers to a second place finish in the SWAC’s Western Division. Woods was also the only GSU player to earn 1st Team All-SWAC honors.
Grambling’s Takeia Edwards and Brandi Payne earned 2nd Team All-SWAC honors. Edwards is a senior, 1st baseman from Gulfport, MS. She is ranked tenth in the SWAC in slugging percentage (.550), tenth in the SWAC in fielding percentage (.980) and seventh in the SWAC in putouts (142). Payne is a sophomore, pitcher from Stone Mountain, GA. She is third in the SWAC in innings pitched (143),
Rosanna Alvarado earned All-Academic Team honors. The sophomore catcher has a 3.44 GPA and is majoring in Kinesiology.
