BATON ROUGE, LA – The GSU Lady Tigers traveled to Baton Rouge, LA to take on Southern University in a battle for first place in the SWAC's Western Division.  SU defeated the Lady Tigers 10-4 on day 1, then 5-4 and 11-2 on day 2 of the series.  The losses drop Grambling to 6-20 this season.

In the first match-up, the Lady Tigers suffered a 10-4 loss at the hands of the Lady Jaguars.  Southern took control of the contest early, recording two runs in the first inning and never looking back.  Despite GSU's efforts, the Lady Jaguars maintained the lead for the remainder of the contest.  GSU scored their first run of the contest on a score by Rosanna Alvarado in the top of the second inning.  The Lady Tigers put together three hits to score two runs in the third inning.  LaQuisha Wood homered off of an error when she nailed a shot deep to centerfield that popped out of Victoria Stewart's glove and over the fence.   Grambling went on to record one more run on a Janae Humphries score in the fourth inning.

In the second contest, GSU was edged by Southern 5-4.  By the end of the third inning, Southern had jumped out to a 4-0 lead.  The Lady Tigers chipped away at the lead, posting one run in the fourth inning.  SU extended the lead 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning off of an Audrey Phillips score.  The Lady Jaguars fought off a late rally in the sixth inning, when GSU exploded and posted three runs in the inning, bringing Grambling within one.  Southern's defense would hold GSU scoreless in the 7th inning to hold on for the 5-4 win.

Grambling suffered their worst loss of the series in their third meeting.  Southern exploded in the first inning posting ten runs.  The lead would be too much for the GSU to overcome.  The game would be ended after the fifth inning due to the run-rule.  Scoring for the Lady Tigers would be Kiara Dedeaux and Chae'wayla Jackson.  Grambling eventually fell by a final score of 11-2.

The Lady Tigers will return to action on Monday, March 23rd when they host the University of Hawaii.  Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
